Surrey Dance Network seek Network Coordinator

November 2022 – October 2023

£850 total fee (4 quarterly invoice points to be arranged)

Surrey Dance Network is a new network for dance professionals living and/or working in Surrey, providing a single hub for coming together to share news and opportunities in the area, creating chances to meet up and exchange ideas, and contributing to a more linked-up community.

We’re looking for a friendly, organised person to help us establish the network, supported by a Strategic Advisory Group including representatives from Surrey-based dance and arts organisations including Dance Woking, Dance Mama, Second Hand Dance, GLive, Made By Katie Green and Arts Partnership Surrey. In the first instance this role is being supported through an initial seed grant from Arts Partnership Surrey. The ideal candidate will contribute to the smooth-running of the network’s activity over its first year of operation, a period which will be exploratory and require some light touch support to help keep things on track.

The Network Coordinator role could suit someone based in the area or close by who is interested in finding out more about the local dance, arts, cultural community, and contributing to planning the next steps for the network, but we welcome all applications and want the Network to reflect the community it seeks to bring together. We actively encourage applications from performers of Black, Asian or other Global Majority ethnicities, those living with disabilities, who are neurodiverse, from low-income backgrounds, and who identify as LGBTQI+.

Sleuth opening night in Woking a hit!

Woking town centre was a hive of activity on Thursday 20 October, with a colourful and bright Diwali parade in Jubilee Square as well as being the opening night of ZoieLogic Dance Theatre’s Sleuth at Christ Church Nave, also in Jubilee Square. Dance Woking hosted Surrey Dance Networks first gathering, which was well supported and highlights the desire for dance professionals to come together to enhance and build on the strong dance community in Woking & Surrey.

Sleuth didn’t disappoint. The performance was humourous and highly engaging. The performers stylising their characters as if in the 1950’s with ease. The use of the set by the performers was really quite something, with dancers managing to maneuver around the space effortlessly. The ensemble pieces were highly explosive, with fast and furious fight scenes, just like in the comic strips of old. I enjoyed how the company allowed the audience to direct the sleuthing and dictate the direction, no two shows are the same.’ Sam McCaffrey, Artistic Director Dance Woking

Tickets are still available for Saturday 22 October to see this incredible show in an a highly unusual setting. https://www.dancewoking.com/event-category/zoielogic-dance-theatres-sleuth/

A highly enjoyable evening rounded off by a Q&A with Artistic Director Zoie Golding, who was recently awarded an MBE for her work in communities. The Surrey Dance Network were treated to some insights into Zoie’s world and work.

ZoieLogic holds LIVE promotional pop up in Woking with Dance Woking

Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October saw ZoieLogic Dance Theatre join Dance Woking for a live promotional pop up in Woking town centre. The pop up was in place to promote the upcoming performances of SLEUTH and the team worked incredibly hard to engage the local community in their detective themed immersive dance piece.

A chalk body outline on Mercia Walk told passers by that a crime had been committed. The prime suspects, held in 2 boxes, were on show for the local community to guess WHODUNNIT? Detective Miller was on hand to control the suspects – The Gangster and The Dirty Cop.

But did Woking correctly guess who had committed the crime?

The local community really engaged with the event, with one remarking “Oh this is really tricky – they both look like they could have done it – I’m going to have to see the show to find out!”

This live promotional pop up was to promote the amazing SLEUTH performances that will be taking part at Christ Church, Jubilee Square from Thursday 20-Saturday 22 October.

Sleuth is an immersive 360 theatre production that sees the audience guide the performers into following certain clues. Every performance is unique in that the audience decide which plot to follow. So could you be a detective? Book your tickets today!
