Spring into 2019 with Dance Woking

2019 is a great milestone year for Dance Woking as we celebrate 25 years of presenting opportunities to watch, take part and perform dance in Woking and Surrey, working with some extraordinary and highly talented professional and community dance company’s and organisations, people and choreographers. As a way of celebrating we are seeking ways to further enhance our programme of events and activities and the opportunities we provide both our local dance communities and more widely the diverse community that makes up the Borough of Woking.

To help us achieve our ambitions we are introducing a fundraising campaign where we are encouraging individuals, companies and others to donate denominations of £25.00, more details dancewoking.com/support-us/

This Spring, alongside our highly successful community dance platforms Boys, 18 March p10, Woking SLAM, 23 March p18, we welcome Alexander Whitley Dance Company to Woking performing 8 Minutes, 21 March, p16, their outreach includes ‘What If…’ a solar science project aimed at year 5 primary schools supported by Ernest Cook Trust; as well as a series of dance classes p4-p8. On 19 March choreographer’s Jack Philp, Katie Dale-Everett and Wesley Bingwa take centre stage in our new Introducing platform, where we showcase exciting new work.

Encounters & Party in the Park 2019 – Apply Now!

Christmas may be just around the corner, but we are already thinking about Summer – Applications to perform and be a part of Encounters and/or Party in the Park are now open!

Following on from the much celebrated success of Encounters and Party in the Park 2018 which saw over 11,000 people enjoy these free family festival days; Dance Woking will be continuing to curate the dance programmes and welcomes applications from different dance groups within the borough and surrounding areas. Visitors will be treated to an array of free performances and activities.

2019 signifies a number of celebrations which both Encounters and Party in the Park will be used to highlight, showcasing the variety of dance in Woking and Surrey as well as some of the community projects and activities we have been developing. 2019 see’s Dance Woking celebrate 25 Years of Dance in Woking and we want to celebrate this milestone with a carnival style parade, developing pride of place.

Two weeks before Party in the Park, we will be leading Encounters with the theme of Woking celebrates with a day of dance in Woking Town Centre, Jubilee Square with a mix of both professional and community led dance. This year we will be expanding to create a carnival parade, building on 2018, and bringing a taste of Rio to this event with live music and great costumes and of course different dance styles.

We are keen to hear from Dance groups who would be interested in taking part on 22 June or 6 July or both. If you have an idea of how your group could be involved then please detail on the attached form. We are open to ideas & keen to hear from you.

SLAM 2019 – Applications Open!

Dance Woking are excited to announce that applications for groups to perform at our annual urban dance styles platform SLAM are now open!

SLAM is a community led dance platform that showcases performances using urban dance styles such as street, hip hop, breakin to body popping.

Featuring some of the best groups in Woking and Surrey this platform highlights the depth and breadth of this movement style.

We welcome applications from local dance and community groups of all ages and abilities who would like the opportunity to perform in a friendly and supportive platform that celebrates these dance styles!

When: Saturday 23rd March 2019, 7.00pm 
(Technical/Dress rehearsals will run from 9am)
