Dance Surrey Youth Call-Out for Dancers!

Are you aged 12+ and looking to try out a new dance style or build on your current skills?

Dance Woking is hosting a 3-day programme of dance this February half term led by highly acclaimed urban/street dance artist, Alisha Thompson. During the 3-days Alisha will teach dancers street/hip hop dance skills to enable them to create a performance piece using these dance styles.

This programme is suitable for dancers who would like to try a new dance style or improve on their current techniques. It would also suit dancers who would like to enhance their dance training by experiencing working with a different choreographer.

This is a great way to have fun, increase energy & wellbeing, get creative, meet new people, learn & develop your techniques, improve self-esteem and confidence, team work and use the skills learnt to create a performance piece.

We will be hosting the dance sessions at Esher Church of England High School’s purpose-built dance studio.

Venue: Esher Church of England High School, More Lane, Esher, Surrey, KT10 8AP

Dates: Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 February 2022

10am – 3pm

Suitable for students aged 12years + with some dance experience, not necessarily hip-hop/street

The performance piece will focus on two themes: climate change and wellbeing. There will be an opportunity for you to input into the piece created and how you can use dance to express emotion and themes.

There will be at least two opportunities to perform the piece created:

Dance Woking’s Schools SLAM (Thursday 24 March) and Woking SLAM (Saturday 2 April).

Bookings are now open! Head to our events page to book your place!

Outreach Teacher Training with Carly Allen of Vital Signz

We held our first face to face outreach teacher training session of 2022 last week and we were joined by the wonderful Carly Allen from Vital Signz Dance Company.

The workshop focused on working with street and urban dance styles within school settings. The aim was to give those teachers who are more contemporary, or ballet based, some extra confidence in working with this genre and for those who are already competent, the training day gave them some really useful tools and tips for working with different age groups/ mixed ability levels in one group/how to bring creativity and themes into the genre and it was a really brilliant session!

It was also a fantastic opportunity to meet the rest of the Outreach team at the start of the year and we can’t wait to see how the training helps those who are taking part in the Surrey Schools Slam in March 2022.

Thank you so much to Carly for bringing such an enthusiastic session to our team.
