Woking SLAM 2016

Tickets are now on sale for Innovate on Saturday 18 November

Dance Woking is hosting its annual contemporary led community dance platform ‘Innovate‘ on Saturday 18 November 2017 at Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Woking.

This is a contemporary dance platform showcasing some of the best local dance groups in Woking & Surrey,

Performances start at 7pm; doors to Rhoda McGaw Theatre open at 6.40pm, tickets can be collected from 6pm outside Rhoda McGaw Theatre entrance. Performance ends at approximately 9.15pm

Tickets £9.50, concessions £5.50.

Photographs of this years group will be available to purchase outside Rhoda McGaw Theatre on the performance nights from 6pm.

Charles Dickens Oliver Twist will be sen in a new light when Avant Garde Dance open Dance Woking’s Autumn season with Fagin’s Twist at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 October.

Fresh from this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Fagin’s Twist is the untold story of a notorious and complex villain. It imagines Fagin in his youth, driven by greed and ambition in the face of overwhelming poverty. The streets are a place of little comfort and fairy-tale endings are hard to find in this poignant coming-of-age-tale.

The performance aims to flip your expectations of the five familiar characters, with Avant Garde Dance’s unmatched contemporary hip hop style.

Avant Garde DAnce was last seen at Party in the Park in July with Josh Smith, who plays the role of Fagin and is a former student of Kings International College, Camberley.

Sam McCaffrey, Executive Producer/Director of Dance Woking, said “This is a fantastic show, it has the feel of a mini West End Production and is a great introduction to dance theatre, a highly energetic performance mixing contemporary and urban dance styles”.

Dance Woking is presenting a series of professional dance companies at Rhoda McGa Theatre with the aim of building an audience for small to middle scale dance companies and bring great dance and dance theatre to Woking.

NEW – Youth Dance Group

Dance Woking is setting up a Youth Dance group.

We will be holding weekly dance classes; the class will develop the students techniques as well as bring out the creative artist within and develop their improvisation skills, all whilst maintaining a fun and supportive atmosphere!

There will be opportunities to work with professional dance companies and perform at Dance Woking platforms.

We have previously run intensive summer courses and continue to run short 2-3 day intensives during half term school breaks. We now want to build on this experience and develop an annual programme of dance activity for a youth dance group.

Dance Woking is seeking part-time Marketing Officer

Dance Woking seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Marketing Officer to lead the marketing for Dance Woking and in particular the professional dance series. The role will lead on the branding and re-positioning of Dance Woking, with a particular emphasis on audience development for this new strand developing a small to middle scale professional dance programme in, Woking.

The Marketing Officer will oversee Dance Woking’s marketing campaigns both internally and externally and play a key part in communicating the organisations marketing message.
