Evolve watch Scottish Dance Theatre company class

Dance Woking have been busy this half term with lots of opportunities to both take part and watch dance.

On Tuesday we a morning dance session with Gemma, called Activate, the 8-11 year olds learned some movement, how to improvise, played fun dance led games and put together a short piece of choreographed dance that they created.

This was followed by The Urban Play Ground Team, led by Alister & Miranda who put the performance parkour group Rotate through their paces – with some new technique to learn plus some devising and using scaffolding, we have a short film to share later this week.

On Wednesday & Thursday we have been hosting a 2 day dance intensive, we have based ourselves at HG Wells Conference & Events Centre in Woking; 13 dancers aged 12-20 years have been working with Scottish Dance Theatre; yesterday they worked with 3 company dancers as the Head of Education & learning. The standard of work they have produced is amazing;

The dancers have come from different dance schools around Woking & Surrey: Zambesi Dance Company, Jenny Reed School of Dance, Diamond Dance, Briar Dance Academy, Italia Conti Arts Academy. We welcome and encourage dancers who dance regularly at other dance schools to take up opportunities like this to come together and work with professional dance companies that are performing in Woking.

The two day intensive has given them the opportunity to experience what its like to work in a professional atmosphere, as well as perform on the same evening as professional company.

Evolve were also able to watch company class at Rhoda McGaw Theatre this afternoon, which was very inspiring for them. The action was improvised, fast, furious, high energy; if you’d like a glimpse Surrey TV captured some of the class; we will provide a link when it’s aired live at 6pm.
