What Young DanceMakers 2019 – Monday Platform
When Monday 18 November
Where Rhoda McGaw Theatre, The Ambassadors, Peacock Centre, Woking, GU21 6GQ
Young Dancemakers platform gives children at local schools and colleges the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre. As well as being encouraged to develop and input into the making of the piece, the dancers experience the excitement of being backstage, with pre-show nerves, waiting to perform, the joy of the performance and the preparations in advance such as the dress and technical rehearsals.
Local schools and collages have been using the theme of the Environment and Sustainability as their stimulus to create imaginative and dynamic dance pieces that link with Dance Woking’s 25-year anniversary celebrations in 2019/20. The showcase includes Primary, Secondary and higher education students. The schools have been working with Dance Woking’s professional Dance Artiste’s for 8 weeks to create their work.
Schools taking part in the platform include:
The Park School, Horsell Junior School, Horsell Village School, Beaufort Primary School, Brookwood Primary School, Westfield Primary School, Esher CofE High School, St John the Baptist School, Kings Academy Binfield
Guest groups include Guildford College, Woking College, Richmond College, Brakenhale School
Our aim is to introduce the many different dance and music styles from around the world to a new generation of children and to inspire them to develop their own creative response to them through dance.
As the Young Dance Maker Platform is being held over two days, some of the groups are only performing on one of the days. Performing alongside will be performance groups from Colleges & Universities!
