An Urban Style Community Dance Platform

Dance Woking is delighted to be back at Rhoda McGaw Theatre, hosting our 14th SLAM platform for community dance groups based in Woking & Surrey, who will be joined by guest groups from further afield.

Woking SLAM is a community led dance platform that showcases performances using urban dance styles such as street, hip hop, breaking and popping.

Featuring some of the best groups in Woking and Surrey this platform highlights the depth and breadth of this movement style.

Dance Schools taking part include: BKD Performers Junior & Senior Crews, LDA Dance XL & XLNC, Betty Bloom Dance, Urban Dance School, Holly School of Dance, Movement Momentum from Dance Phaze, DancAYers Company, Alexandra Dance Company

Alongside the platform dancers taking part will get the opportunity to undertake a workshop led by highly acclaimed Boy Blue performer & teacher Yolanda Newsome. Last few places still available, please contact us for details.

Yolanda Newsome: began her dance career at IRIE! dance theatre, Britain’s leading dance theatre company working in the field of African & Caribbean dance fusion. Yolanda studied Contemporary, Ballet, African and Caribbean Dance. Specialising in Hip Hop Foundation and Waackin

Following 13 years’ experience training under BoyBlue Ent she was promoted to their Teaching Faculty developing roles as Rehearsals Director, Teaching Assistant and Assistant Choreographer. Transitioning her skills to lecturing at Trinity Laban on the Centre for Advanced Training Programme Performance credit; GOT TO DANCE Semi Finalist 2010; STREET DANCE MOVIE 3D; THANKS TIM (2012 London Olympics); SAN FRANCISCO HIP HOP FESTIVAL; LEGACY: THE RETURN, BREAKIN CONVENTION Apollo Theatre New York), Nike, An Night With BoyBlue, Boadicea Bahrain, EuroVision Opening Liverpool, MOBO Awards, Latitude & Wilderness Festival , BBC TV Series- MOOD, Nostos Festival (Athens) and most recent Manchester “Free Your Mind” Matrix at the Factory International
