Strangers and Others

What does community and integration mean?

Wearing silent disco head phones, you are invited to enter the stage rather than the auditorium and given instructions live through a series of choreographed meetings. You have permission to look, touch, assume and judge. Choose how you respond, moving into lines, groups and pairs. Watched only by Hanna & Heidi, you can use appearance, physicality and reactions as a guide to negotiate one another as you cooperate. Immersed in light and sound, you will experience being alone and together at the same time. In 20 Strangers, Hanna and Heidi raise questions around socialization, tolerance, autonomy, contribution, exposure and choice.

Will you follow the social codes and play your part?

About: H2DANCE is choreographer/ performer duo Hanna Gillgren (SE) and Heidi Rustgaard (NO). Their work sits in between performance and dance and can be characterized as interdisciplinary, often taking a humorous approach to serious subject matters. Recurring themes in their choreography are group behaviour, conformity, power balance and manipulation. The notion of the group versus the individual, the public and the private is investigated through mediums such as movement, voice and video performed in and outside the black box. Hanna and Heidi have co created eight dance pieces, eleven touring shows, two dance films and several successful high quality participatory dance projects in the UK over the last 16 years.
